The Five Solas of the Reformation

The material principle of the Reformation is justification by grace alone (sola gratia) through faith alone (sola fide) in Christ alone (solus Christus). This is what "provoked" the conflict/question. The formal principle of the Reformation is Scripture alone (sola Scriptura). This is what "proved" the conflict/answer. The five solas do not define for us all knowable truth, but they do set a line that must be known, studied, protected, and preached. We must know, study, protect, and preach the Scriptures for the sake of our justification by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone for the glory of God alone.
